Want an like shooting fish in a barrel way to add more than architectural interest to your standard colonial door and windowframing? Adding an extra piece of moulding, called dorsum band, can add together that extra boost of architectural interest.

And the good news is that you can do this to your existing trim moulding. No need to remove or start fresh! The only thing yous will need is pigment on hand to paint the moulding afterward you lot BEEF it Up! In essence, We're gonna PUMP information technology Upward!

Materials:

  • Back band moulding
  • Finish nailer
  • 2″ cease nails
  • Caulk
  • Paint
  • Miter saw or  hand saw with miter box

Instructions:

There's actually not much to this tutorial. Line up the dorsum band against your existing door or window frame. Measure or mark the dorsum band where you lot need to cut your miter.

Then make your miter cutting from that within mark. Continue cut pieces of dorsum band for the height and opposite side.

Only secure the back band to your existing trim with end nails.

Then caulk the holes and the seam where the dorsum band overlaps with your old moulding. Let the caulk dry out completely and paint the moulding.

The added back ring moulding creates more dimension and a classier look to your doorways and windows. The left side is the standard colonial casing. The right side is with the addition of the dorsum band:

Psst. Yous don't have to beef up your whole house. You can add together back ring to one room or a few rooms. It's your choice. I added information technology to the kitchen when I was renovating it.
